Xiaomi finally releases 2015 sales stats, fell short of its lowest predictions

The case of the missing phone statistics has finally been solved – today, Xiaomi revealed that it sold 70 million smartphones in 2015, a number below even their most modest predictions.

It’s been apparent for a while that something went wrong for Xiaomi in 2015. In 2014, the company predicted that they would sell 100 million phones in the coming year – an estimate that was promptly bumped down to 80 million last March.

The recently started locking the bootloaders of recent releases (see, e.g., http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/general/warning-locked-bootloader-t3292891). This is complicating matters for many overseas buyers who need, for example, root access in order to install fonts for languages that are not supported by the official Rom.

They also started locking the bootloader on several recent devices and making the process of installing non-official Roms much more complex.(e.g., the mi4c – see http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/general/warning-locked-bootloader-t3292891).
Form what I read some people are having a hard time even installing fonts for their native language in order to read messages, etc..
