At about 8:30 Saturday night, I was feeding the cats and getting ready to go to sleep. The TV was off and I was done for the day.
So it wasn’t until Sunday morning I discovered what happened, by seeing the above NY Daily News front page.
I know this dumpster:
I’ve stood next to it many times. It’s been a resting point between a dollar pizza joint near Seventh Avenue and the Best Buy on Sixth Avenue.
Construction over there has the street narrowed with plastic barricades. There’s scaffolding. I would usually step off the sidewalk, out of foot traffic, to arrange things in my shoulder bag, check my CLIE, or think about what I just saw at Best Buy.
Right next to that dumpster.
I planned to be right next to that dumpster yesterday, Sunday afternoon, because the pizza joint and that Best Buy were on my schedule for the day.
Had the bomb been set for the time I was next to that dumpster, I would have likely been killed.
What I don’t understand is why the hell any bomber would choose that spot.
It makes no sense to me at all. It’s not highly-trafficked at that time of night. And even in the day, people tend to walk on the other side of the street due to the construction.
There are other places where a bomb would inflict more damage and casualties.
So all I can think of is that this was a test run.
Fuckers wanted to know that they’d have a working device, that their blueprints worked, so they could get to planning where to put them for real.
I haven’t paid close attention — other things to do — but I heard in passing that the explosive used was something new and easily available. This also tends to make me think this was a test run.
With all the rights-violating spying the NSA, CIA, FBI, and other government agencies, have been doing, here we are again, discussing the aftermath of an event instead of seeing a press conference where it’s been prevented.
Do any of these damn spies do their jobs?
At post time, there’s word of five people — possibly in a weapons-packed SUV — caught and detained. Let’s see if these are the people who did this — and the additional bombs in New Jersey’s Seaside Park and the latest ones found in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
