Amazon continues its all-encompassing assault on the Android tablet market with a new Fire HD 10 tablet. Amazon has already prevented Chinese brands from any hope of entering the American market. And this one will probably kill off all the other Android tablets available in stores.
All-New Fire HD 10 Tablet with Alexa Hands-Free, 10.1″ 1080p Full HD Display, 64 GB, Black
Going for the ad-free 64GB version makes the price jump from US$150 to US$205.
It’s unclear to me if having Alexa Hands-Free does away with the need to buy any Echo or Echo Dot device. If it does, that would be an even more compelling sales point for this tablet. Looking at Amazon’s video — which is, at post time, available only at the above link and not anywhere on YouTube — it tempts even me. One day, I know I’ll succumb and become a Prime member and get all that music and video and books. There comes a point where you’re a sucker for not getting it. That’s a position Apple wishes it could be in!
For most everyday people, an Amazon tablet isn’t just good enough — since most of them will also be Prime members, it becomes better than any other tablet out there. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that iPad Mini sales have been lost to Amazon’s tablets.
