The weekend was a washout. Beginning around noon on Saturday, a persistent Blade Runner-like rain of varying intensity arrived and didn’t leave until Sunday evening. The only eRiding out there was being done by the delivery people shuttling food to the rich.
Weekend reading was The 5 Second Rule: Transform Your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage by Mel Robbins. I saw her twice on YouTube in interviews and was interested in the science she claimed was in the book. The science was thin. I’ve used a countdown system in my life before but I’ve found better results with my own self-command which, oddly, is five syllables: Do It Anyway. The best bit in the book was her quoting neuroscientist Antonio Damasio who claimed — and I thoroughly believe this — we’re “feeling machines that think.” Ayn Rand never believed that — and look what happened. She never believed emotions were tools of cognition. Emotions often triumph over cognition. She should have checked her neurology premises!
