Weekend Review: June 23-24, 2018

I did not wander about much and cut my time in the city short on Sunday, so my sightings were few: 3 Boosted boards, 1 unidentified eScooter (Xiaomi?), 1 unidentified shortboard (oddly, with green Acton front wheels, dark back wheels, and so short I thought it might be a DIY Penny-size board), and 1 Xiaomi M365.

Reading was:

In Defense of Troublemakers: The Power of Dissent in Life and Business by Charlan Nemeth: I cannot recommend this.

The second book has a weird prelude. I never saw the John Wayne movie in full (I saw maybe a few minutes). I did see, not all at once, most of the remake and was impressed. I wanted to read this book for the longest time but kept forgetting to request it from the library. Well, last week I saw several pristine MMPB copies behind the library’s checkout desk and asked if they were available to borrow. The librarian said he didn’t understand why they even had it — they were giving the copies away for free! And that’s how I wound up owning and reading:

True Grit by Charles Portis. Oh hell yes. Read this. I say that as someone who is not a fan of westerns (there are probably fewer than ten movies I like and this is the first novel I’ve read). I need to see the Coen Brothers film again, this time from start to finish.
