NYC 451: Printed Books Are A Fire Hazard

Brooklyn man has too many books in home of 46 years, says landlord who wants him out

Ben Hammer could probably write a tome about the 46 years he has spent in his Brooklyn apartment, but he wouldn’t have anywhere to put it. The longtime Midwood resident is being threatened with eviction from his rent-regulated digs because, his landlord says, his vast collection of books and paper is a hazard.

This is outrageous.

If the landlord wins, this will set a precedent and it’ll be open season on anyone with a collection of books, no matter how small. I hope the landlord is laughed out of court. By a judge with a large book collection.
