NYC groups that favor motorized scooters and cycles urge Cuomo to approve ebike legislation

Cuomo has said he is reluctant to sign a bill legalizing ebikes and electric scooters because of safety concerns. The governor had said the legislation should include a provision requiring that riders wear helmets.

I’m all for helmets but such a provision would limit eScooter rentals. There should be an exemption for such rentals.

Current state and city law prohibits e-bike and e-scooter riders from streets and sidewalks. Violators face a $500 fine.

But run someone over with a car? Walk away free!
