TV: Giri/Haji (Duty/Shame)

BBC now. Netflix in 2020.

This is a mind-blowing series. It is up there with The Singing Detective, the first season of the original Forbrydelsen, The Shadow Line, and the first season of Top of the Lake as groundbreaking and totally astonishing television.

No spoilers, no other words than that. There’s a Wikipedia entry that I won’t even link to. I came to this not knowing it even existed. I’ve spoiled that little bit of surprise for you.

Back in the 1970s, American TV would present mini-series based on books (such as Roots) and bill them as “A Novel for Television.”

Giri/Haji is that. Do not miss this.

  1. REALLY looking forward to this. Watching Watchmen now on HBO – I have nothing to compare it to because I never read the comics (that will be rectifie shortly because I ordered them).

I HATED Watchmen. Should be called Wokemen. Rorschach was my favorite and he’s been perverted into a symbol of racism. Had a civil exchange about that with someone on Twitter and now I will watch e2 even though I didn’t plan to.
