Alt-Wheels Briefly #19

A Gotway mTen3 electric unicycle painted metallic blue by its owner. It has nothing to do with anything else in this post. It’s just gorgeous.

What Are Alt-Wheels?

Alternative Wheels.

Alt-Wheels are:
– Made for a single rider
– Smaller than bicycles
– Affordable
Portable

Electric skateboards, electric scooters, electric unicycles, the Onewheel, the Jyroball.

Alt-Wheels differs from “micromobility.” That’s all in this post.

There can be no progress for Alt-Wheels without safe streets:

Families for Safe Streets Brings 100 Bodybags to Day of Remembrance

This is the first video I’ve ever seen that says there’s a steep learning curve with the Onewheel:

I’ve switched from eScooter to OneWheel Pint

Since the Pint, specifically, has a rounded tire that makes lateral human balance crucial, some people might encounter difficulties. But, as he’s done, learn it and ride free.

No matter how many times I see Alt-Wheels sqeeeze between cars in a video, I wince. And I shouldn’t. Because if the rider had been squished, the video’s title would probably say “In Remembrance…” or somesuch. Here’s a trip downtown in Manhattan made faster than any bus, subway, or even car could do:
