The Spy In Your Home, Your Pocket, Your Entire Life

Apps Are Using Background App Refresh to Send Data to Tracking Companies

During the course of a week of testing, Fowler ran into 5,400 trackers, mostly found within apps, which Disconnect told him would likely send 1.5 gigabytes of data over the course of a month.

Boldfaced emphasis added by me.

This needs to be stopped.

Aside from the spying, sending that much data without a phone owner knowing it is devastating to those who have pre-paid phones with the lowest-cost data plans. This is tantamount to theft.

Where the hell are all the consumer advocates to scream about this? Are they unaware?

And how much worse is this for people with Android phones?
