Chris at TechTablets, in his review, used an app that reports the DRM a device supports. Netflix’s DRM was missing. And the Netflix app therefore wouldn’t appear in Google Play Store.
Well, Netflix works on the Teclast M89 despite that.
Canal Rev replied to me on YouTube:
you must install it with the apk. It doenst appear on the store.
I always wondered if something like that was possible. I’ve seen other people force “incompatible” apps to work when the Google Play Store wouldn’t even list them.
For Netflix and the Teclast M89, this is big news for many people.
Thanks to Canal Rev for being curious and insistent!
Same-day update: Canal Rev provided additional info:
The level of DRM protection you are talking about (L3) means it can in theory only play sub hd quality. Inded, you cant find netflix app on play store for this tablet, but you can install it by the apk and use it without problems.
Sub-HD might disappoint some people but it’s better than not having Netflix at all. Also consider that public WiFi bandwidth isn’t often the best and sometimes won’t allow an HD stream at all.
